1. The Blue Crystal
(via @behance)

Designer Sven Sauer has topped himself this time. His project, the Blue Crystal, off the shore of Dubai is really something else. Combining natural organic forms with the elemental structure of ice, Sauer takes traditional Arabic ornamental style and transforms it into a fantasy. Aiming to uncover the connection between water, light and sound, this floating structure is an unprecedented attempt of architectural innovation. The Blue Crystal touts a self-sufficient, shifting energy system, enabling it to fulfill all basic needs away from the mainland. If you think that’s all, you’re sorely mistaken. Head over to Sauer’s page on the Behance Network for more information on the project.

2. Jill and Matt Wedding Invitation
(via @stephanniny)

How many of you have friends whose lives resemble fairy tales? I have a handful, but that’s about it. For most of us, happiness doesn’t just fall into the palms of our hands. We must work to obtain it, and remain focused to maintain it. And if anyone can back me up on that statement, it’s Jill Marleah and Matthew Jesse. Check out these guys’ wedding invitation. I think it is crazy awesome!

3. Pizzatopia
(via @ArtWeLove)

This one is a little controversial, so proceed at your own risk. I happen to love the idea of a New York cityscape on a pizza, but the folks at Art Fag City  feel otherwise. Apparently “it’s not too much of a stretch to interpret the sculpture as an intentional mocking of the commercial market through sheer awfulness.” Check it out for yourself, and see what you think.

4. The Girl Effect

What’s the best way to raise awareness of start a movement? I’m not sure, but using creativity and art is probably up there. I thought this video for The Girl Effect was really lovely. Let’s hope it catches on – it’s for a great cause!

5. Up as a Last Wish
(via @BoingBoing)

Everyone should see Pixar’s Up. Period. If you haven’t seen it, step away from your computer, call a loved one, and buy a ticket to the next show at your local theatre. I know I haven’t been around for eons, but Up was without a question one of the most moving films that I have ever seen. True, it is a cartoon, but that is exactly what makes it so incredible.

I thought Up was a total tear jerker, but it was nothing compared to this story I found on BoingBoing:

Colby Curtin, a 10-year-old with a rare form of cancer, was staying alive for one thing – a movie. From the minute Colby saw the previews to the Disney-Pixar movie Up, she was desperate to see it. Colby had been diagnosed with vascular cancer about three years ago, said her mother, Lisa Curtin, and at the beginning of this month it became apparent that she would die soon and was too ill to be moved to a theater to see the film. After a family friend made frantic calls to Pixar to help grant Colby her dying wish, Pixar came to the rescue.
