Maybe it’s the summer heat, but it seems I’ve been craving “different” these days. Whether it’s befriending sock puppet photographers or breaking into dance in line at grocery stores - something’s drawing me towards the unconventional, and it has certainly influenced my taste in music videos. Step into my world for a moment, and see a few musical gems that have entertained me this season.
1 Kraak and Smaak – Squeeze Me
Heineken, Van Gogh, Kraak & Smaak. The three most famous things to come out of Holland. Ever. That’s what this band thinks, at least. And who am I to pretend to know any better? This intricate music video must have taken ages to complete. Upbeat and amusing – it’s definitely worth a try.
2 Charlotte Gainsbourg - Heaven Can Wait
Hands down one of the most original music videos that I have come across to date, Heaven Can Wait by Charlotte Gainsbourg is a must see. I’ve watched it on repeat for several days, and each time I’ve made a new discovery. Gainsbourg, a French singer-songwriter and actress has also been stirring things up in the film world with her performance in the controversial flick, ‘Antichrist.’ I haven’t seen (nor do I plan to see) the movie, but if it’s anything like this music video, I’m sure its quite the conversation piece.
3 Jonsi – Go Do
I’m not going to lie. This one gets a little creepy. But give it a chance, it has it’s moments. Icelandic guitarist Jonsi – you may know him as the lead singer of Sigur Ros – serves up quite a show in this visually arresting music video. There are some undeniably inspiring moments in this piece. If you’re looking for an excuse to step away from your real life for a moment, go ahead and take this one.
4 Moderat – Rusty Nails
Moderat, an electronic music project based in Berlin, is the brainchild of artists Sascha Ring, Gernot Bronsert, and Sebastian Szary. I’ll be honest – prior to discovering this video, I had no clue who either one of those guys was. Rusty Nails has put Moderat on the map for me. If you’re anyone like me, it will send you into a trance and/or get you excited for bed time.
5 Beat Dis – Just Like
I’ve written on this one before, but I thought it certainly belonged in this post. I still love the motion graphics – still think its worth a look. Enjoy.
