If you’re wondering where I’ve been the past few days, it’s in Laguna Beach, CA. Thank goodness for frequent flyer miles, that’s what I always say. To those who are more atuned to the virtues of southern California, I’m going to pose this question as diplomatically as I can. Who knew there were so many artists in that small beach town? I didn’t, but I’m really happy that I had a chance to see their work.
One of my favorite activities during my spontaneous vacation out west was attending ArtWalk, a city-wide ...

Let’s face it. The days of Sheep’s Meadow sunbathing are over – it’s already bone chilling cold up here in New York City. So if you’re looking for a warm (and weird) diversion, head over to the Guggenheim for a historic event. From September 18, 2009 to January 13, 2010, the museum is featuring a full-scale retrospective of the Russian visionary artist, Vasily Kandinsky. Abstract art exhibits do tend to be hit or miss, but I implore you to give this one a shot.

Kandinsky’s pieces are about the relationship between ...

This April 24th, over 32,000 art professionals and collectors from around the world will arrive in Belgium for the 27th edition of artbrussels. This highly anticipated event, which ranks among the top European contemporary art fairs, showcases 165 galleries that have been nominated through a rigorous, quality-based selection process. This year, international galleries on the roster include Buchmann Galerie (Germany), Galeria Senda (Spain), and Simon Lee Gallery (Britain). If you are going to be in the area, I definitely recommend a visit.
As the capital of Belgium, Brussels is an ideal host for this modern ...

Last month I blogged about Emma Hack, a brilliant body painter based in Australia. After seeing her wallpaper camouflage technique, I became intrigued with the concept, and decided to learn more. In the process, I discovered four other artists who also create quite stunning hidden imagery: Maija Luutonen, Joshua Callaghan, Liu Bolin, and Desiree Palmen. Browse through the pages of this post for a preview of each, and if you know of anyone else I should keep an eye on, please let me know!

This afternoon, during a stroll down West Broadway, I discovered Jamali. Upon stepping into his regal Soho gallery, I was overcome by a sense of wonderment.
To some, Jamali’s work may seem a little off-kilter. But that is because there are truly no other artists like him.
Raised in the foothills of the Himalayas, Jamali is the originator of “mystical expressionism”, a new school of art that combines scientific insights with ancient wisdom. If you are wondering what these things have to do with painting, just wait until you hear how Jamali creates his ...

For the past three years, the Guggenheim museum has been drawing crowds to its Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building for exclusive viewings of art after dark. On the first Friday of every month, art connoisseurs and eager socialites arrive by the thousands to enjoy DJs, wine, and the main exhibition on display in the Guggenheim rotunda.
This Friday’s entertainment lineup features DJ Mike Simonetti, founder of independent record label Italians Do It Better. A prominent taste-maker in “modern disco,” Simonetti mixes new and classic disco rhythms with traditional elements of hip-hop and rock to create his instantly ...

Australian Emma Hack literally lives her life as art. The acclaimed skin illustrator launched her career nearly twenty years ago as a qualified hairstylist and children’s makeup artist. Today, her creative portfolio spans several genres, including sculpture, photography, and even editorial design.
